Israel Program Options

Below are the descriptions of the four different Sunday morning Israel programs we are running at L'Taken this season:

1. “The Missing Peace: Seeking a Two-State Solution in the Middle East” - Become a member of the Israeli Knesset (the Israeli government)! Learn how Israel’s government functions and the core issues in the Middle East Peace process. This program is primarily intended for participants interested in learning more about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.  This is the program we have ran in most recent years during the Sunday morning Israel program.

2.The Minority Report: The Hunt for Equal Rights in Israel” - Israel is the only country in the world with a Jewish majority.  Yet not all Israeli citizens, or even all Jews, have equal rights. Come explore life as a minority in Israel, understand why it actually may be harder to be a Reform Jew in Israel than the U.S., and and how Israel functions as a diverse society. This program is primarily intended for participants interested in learning about how the Reform Movement advocates for minority rights in Israel.

3.“Jewish AND Democratic: Exploring Israel’s Founding Values” - Dive into Israel’s Declaration of Independence to learn about the state’s core values. How do they relate to your beliefs? How does Israel live out its values in today’s context? Grapple with these issues and more as you begin to build the foundations of your own relationship with Israel. This program is primarily intended for participants looking for basic building blocks for them to begin thinking seriously about their connection to Israel.

4.“The U.S. Foreign Aid Bill: How it Works and How it Benefits Israel” - Learn about why and how the U.S. provides aid to other countries and Israel in particular. Explore how the Foreign Aid Bill is constructed and how Israeli and American officials work together to provide Israel with the security assistance it needs. This program is primarily intended for participants interested in advocating for Israel on Capitol Hill.
