Position of the Reform Movement on Child Soldiers

In theweatshops and Child Labor resolution, adopted by the URJ in November 1997, the URJ "calls upon the U.S. and Canadian governments and state and provincial governments where appropriate to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention No. 138." Under Article 38 of this agreement, "State Parties shall take all feasible measures to ensure that persons who have not attained the age of fifteen years do not take a direct part in hostilities."

In February 2000, the Religious Action Center sent a letter to General Henry H. Shelton, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The text of the letter can be found by clicking here.
