July 16, 2008 | Washington, DC— As the bodies of two kidnapped Israeli soldiers are returned home, Rabbi David Saperstein, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, issued the following statement:
As the remains of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev are returned home, we extend our deepest condolences to the families of these brave heroes. For two years, we have prayed for the well being and safe return of soldiers Goldwasser and Regev. Our hearts break with the realization that their families’ worst fears have been realized. We mourn their tragic loss and remember, too, on this day all the soldiers who gave their lives and freedom to protect Israel. We continue to pray for Gilad Shalit and urge his quick and safe return to Israel.
Let us always remember this high price of war, and strive in honor of their memories to bring security to Israel and peace to all.
